Here are two superb resources: 1) Google's very own Adwords Learning Center! Cost: Nada! 2) A good old-fashioned print book that costs a fraction of the cost of the courses you see promoted on the Internet and it's just as good, if not better: Adwords for Dummies by Howie Jacobson, Ph.D. Don't let the doctorate scare you, Howie is an entertaining, articulate writer. ===== Advertisement ====== MLM WARNING! Breakthrough Report Reveals the Cold, Hard Truth About MLM. Adwords for Dummies Retail Price: $24.99 USD / $29.99 CDN / £15.99 BUT Amazon.com has it for only $15.74 USD as of this writing! Adwords for Dummies was published in September, 2007 and yes, Adwords has changed it's interface and added a couple of things since then, but this book is still better than 98% of the Adwords stuff sold on the 'Net. Main Article: DIRECTORY MAXIMIZER Directory Maximizer is a manual directory submission service that charges only 14 cents per directory submission. I am testing the service, hoping that they deliver as promised but also wondering if it's "too good to be true." Links to your website from a directory can improve your website's rankings on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). In other words, when someone searches for a keyword that you feature on your website, your site will appear higher up in the list of search results. Obtaining back links to your website is one component of an overall search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. ===== Advertisement ===== EasyHits4u is the #1 rated traffic exchange. No cost to sign up. ===================== The idea behind submitting your website to a directory is that if a directory deems your site worthwhile, then chances are good that your site will also prove valuable for people searching for information. This idea is a reality for a well-established, human-edited directory such as the DMOZ Open Directory, but it does not follow that a link from any directory will boost your site's search engine performance. New, low-quality, or disorganized directories often will not help your sites PageRank (PR) or standing on the SERPs at all. In fact, they could even hurt your website if Google or other search engines 'think' (it's computer algorithms that make the decisions) you are link spamming. Directory Maximizer currently contains over 1400 directories in their database. I am experimenting with 100 random submissions and 100 submissions to PR 2 or 3 sites only. ===== Advertisement ===== Traffic Swarm is the #2 rated traffic exchange. No cost to sign up for this one either. ========================= I am spreading out the submissions to these directories over five weeks to prevent the appearance of link spamming. I also wrote five different titles and descriptions and was as specific as possible about appropriate categories for my site. (All of the proceeding options exist within the Directory Maximizer submission interface). Spreading out submissions; writing different titles and descriptions; keeping the titles and descriptions as objective as possible (don't write an advertisement); and narrow categorization all minimize the possibility that search engines will perceive your directory links as link spam. If you choose to use Directory Maximizer, my advice is as follows: * Go slow. It's tempting to submit your website to 1400 directories but it could end up hurting you. Start with 20- 100 submissions to PR 2 or 3 sites and 20-100 submissions to random directories, most of which will be PR zero (often because they are relatively new and don't have many back links themselves). * Categorize your site as narrowly as possible. * Spread out submissions over five weeks. * Write five different titles and descriptions, changing the wording of each. * Track your PageRank and SERP position over the course of the five weeks and for three months afterward. If either metric goes down, consider removing your links from some of the directories. * Remember that the absolute best way to improve the PR and SERP ranking of your website is to provide quality content. If you don't do that, directory submissions will be a waste of time. ~ Mark Worthen HOT TOPICS FROM MY BLOGS! » Just published! Apr 12, 2009, How to Access Magnetic Sponsoring Tracking StatisticsIf you are a Magnetic Sponsoring affiliate, you should be tracking your leads. (If you are not yet an affiliate, I highly recommend becoming one since the Magnetic Sponsoring program provides high-quality products and a lucrative compensation plan. To become an affiliate, first get Magnetic Sponsoring and then sign up to become an affiliate.) The affiliate link tracking code structure for Magnetic Sponsoring is as follows: [your_affiliate_URL]?c=campagin_group/sub_campaign1 Thus, if your affiliate URL is: http://superaffiliate.magneticsponsoringonline.com and you were advertising on EasyHits4u using a banner, your affiliate link with tracking code would be: http://superaffiliate.magneticsponsoringonline.com?c=EasyHits4u/banner But once you have that set up and your ads are running, how do you check your stats? Here's how: 1. Log in to your Magnetic Sponsoring back office at http://magneticsponsoringonline.com 2. Hover your mouse over the My Account tab and then click on Traffic Report 3. Find the web page you are advertising on EasyHits4u and click on it. 4. The next page will show your results broken down by tracking code. If the code is hyperlinked ("clickable"), click on it to show subcampaign results (in the example above, "banner" is the subcampaign). That's it! ~ Mark Worthen Click for more info
